Shannon A Alder
I am a qualified psychotherapist with an established private practice in Central London for over 30 years, and a member of UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy).
I offer help with troubling feelings and emotional difficulties. I work with patients confidentially in a warm and accepting environment in Victoria Street, London SW1.
I offer psychotherapy sessions tailored to each individual, as well as supervisions. I aim to help people free themselves from negative patterns of thinking – and behaviour.
As a qualified psychotherapist, I believe that supportive therapy can help anyone lead a more fulfilling life. I aim to equip you with tools to understand your emotions (and the triggers for them), so that you can become more secure in your sense of self, and more able to control your responses to life events.
I am a member of UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), with an established private practice in Central London for over 30 years. My initial training was within the statutory sector and the NHS. I am qualified as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist through the Guild of Psychotherapists. I offer both psychotherapy and counselling, as well as supervision for therapists and trainee therapists.
I have a background as an art therapist and work with creative people, high-flying business executives and anyone interested in gaining self-knowledge and improving their approach to life's challenges.
I offer a warm, accepting and confidential environment in Victoria Street London SW1. Frequency of sessions is adapted to need, and I am qualified to work on multiple frequency.

Let's uncover your unique strengths
If you would like to see if psychotherapy can help you, please contact me so you can experience an initial session. Our first meeting will be in a calm and confidential setting, where you can feel free to tell me about your situation and any confusing feelings or difficult challenges.
You do not need to a GP referral.
Together, we can explore how psychotherapy could help you. The first session is charged at £100, with no obligation to continue. Think of it as an opportunity for us to discover whether we could work together productively. Afterwards, you can have a time of reflection and a second session before you commit to ongoing therapy.
As an established therapist, I have many qualified associates. If I believe one of these therapists’ approach, specialism or personality may be more beneficial for you, I may suggest a referral.
Anxiety and fear of failure can be crippling. Stress – especially in a competitive city like London – can lead to social anxiety, the inability to unplug from work, or conflicts with colleagues and friends.
Even good relationships can be demanding, while bad ones can be destructive. Maybe you’re struggling to find or sustain a meaningful relationship. Together we can address emotional, sexual or financial conflicts.
Depression, loneliness, frustration, anger and resentment can taint your life – and your relationships. Therapy can help you break free from harmful patterns of negative feelings, for a more harmonious approach to life.
When you feel like you have little to offer, you project that hopelessness to the people around you. A therapist can help you untangle the roots of your negative self-image and rebuild a more realistic and constructive sense of self.
If you struggle with self-sabotaging behaviour such as addictions, affairs, gambling, eating disorders or other out-of-control habits, therapy can help. By investigating what underpins this behaviour, you break negative patterns.
If you’re eager to move on to a new and more productive phase of your life, therapy can help you gain perspective so you can move forward. The insights you gain will empower you with tools to help you make the most of life.
